Yemen enjoys a geographical location and a diversity of terrain and climate that is rarely available in other regions, which led to the diversity of vegetation cover, and consequently the presence of soil and environmental factors suitable for the growth of different types of plants and trees that had a role in Yemen’s prosperity in the agricultural aspect and its fame among other nations. In this part of the Arabian Peninsula, there are long coastal areas, plateaus, mountains and heights whose height in some areas reaches 3700 m above sea level, in addition to valleys that depend on the water of springs and streams, as well as plains, reefs and agricultural terraces that depend on seasonal rain water 20 Which had a role in the growth of certain plants with high-quality crops that do not grow in other parts of the world. This distinction drew the attention of ancient travelers, writers and geographers, especially the classics (Greece and Romans), including Theophrastos. Who wrote about the plants in Yemen and provided the ancient world with detailed information about them, in particular the aromatic and medicinal plants that were of interest to the ancient world. The need for certain types of plants has reached the degree of sanctification in those countries and their country of origin, and there are a number of sacred plants sanctified by the ancient Yemenis, the most important of which are: the myrrh and the frankincense trees. According to the Bible, Noah knew it as “the land of milk and honey” and the Three Wise Men presented the infant Jesus with myrrh and frankincense from its mountains. Some claim it is also the Queen of Sheba's home.
